'The course of true love never did run smooth' - Review dedicated to Serkan Bolat!

Image
Finally geared myself and finished episode 14! Only one person took all my focus - Serkan Bolat!!!  As I told earlier, the whole story is narrated from his pov. Though the story did start from Eda's narration and Serkan enters the scene a little later. Right from the time Serkan comes in, we start looking at the progression of the story through his eyes. The way he is stumped by the wild spirit of Eda, and the way he falls for her and his efforts to keep away and his failure and his outright surrender - everything we do it with him. In spite of Eda calling him Robot Bolat, Serkan actually wears his heart in his sleeve indeed. If he is angry, the whole world knows about it. If he hates some one, he tells them directly. So when he fell in love, he was shocked because he was not used it. Selin was more of a convenience and a habit. He did not fall in love with her. With Eda he gloriously fell  deep in love. And Serkan being serkan couldn't hide it for long. Given a choice, if Ed

No Girl's Dream Should be a Man!

A bit late review for Episode 13 As I saw the live telecast, I didn't have the heart to see it with subs. Waited for episode 14! now need to catch up with it before next Wednesday! Need to catch up, otherwise, Eda might leave off to Italy!  Jokes apart, it was a confusing episode! Celine being abandoned at the altar sounds sooo far off, that I didn't realize it was just one episode old! these Turkish shows are soooo long it is like a few episodes before.  This episode was confusing! I understand Serkan was being a good friend to Celine. Even Eda was being understanding. But his hot and cold attitude was confusing. After telling all caring dialogues, out of the blue he tells Celine, Eda calms me (it sounded out of context), and then when Eda comes in, he says, I wish I could hug you or something like that. till then Serkan was not even missing Eda, so it looked out of place.  Loved this dialogue of Ayfer - No Girl's dream should be a Man! Wish we could have such dialogues i

Sen Cal Kapimi Episode 12: A Review

Image
Serkan and Eda are finally together albeit in secret. There are so many thoughts swirling in my head but the most significant one is that I do not want to dissect the episode. I just want to breathe the fresh air and smell the flowers like Eda, and enjoy the sensory experiences of the story of Sen Cal Kapimi. So these are just some random thoughts about Sen Cal Kapimi.  1. Eda's decision to go to Italy  I understand Eda's dream- to study in Italy. She loves architecture, the historical significance of the city, and had always dreamed of going there to complete her degree. The dream became even more precious when it was denied to her because of Serkan. She does consider Turkey for the degree but her heart says go to Italy. As the audience, we want to see the hero and heroine together, but, I like that the woman is not sacrificing her dreams and trying to "make practical choices." Many among us have done that...for family, for a husband, for a child. So I have come to

Sen Cal Kapimi: Romantic Robot & his Love!

Image
This episode I would like to dedicate to Serkan Bolat and his love! A guy who was nicknamed as Robot, when he lets go, he does it completely! Not many men have the guts to do it. Look at Engin! After 10 years of love, he still is unable to confess! But our hero, for all his logical thinking, once he realized he might lose his love, he breaks open! And how!! He blurts out first, but once the gates are broken down, he has no hesitation to repeat it! So this week's episode is celebrating Serkans's love!  The romance was felt throughout the episode! When we see the lovers, we are blushing and averting our eyes, like Erdem did in his imagination! They were in their own  world. The close way they stand, Serkan nuzzling Eda, and using every opportunity to kiss her, unable to focus on his work, wanting to always see her! Ah Serkan ah!! what a long way he has come!!! Falling in love, the phrase suits him the best! He has the longest and deepest fall!  I always felt this poem of Elizab

My Observations of Sen Cal Kapimi - Episode 11

When the whole world is looking forward to the romantic (hopefully) episode 12, I am looking back at episode 11. After watching it raw, i wanted to delay watching the episode with subs along with episode 12, but couldn't wait. and i watched it two days back. finally we are moving forward in the plot. I didn't expect Serkan to confess this soon, so it was a surprise for me! The last scene made such an impact, I need to talk about it first before going to the rest of the episode. As some fans were questioning, even i wonder why is it needed for Eda to go to Italy to study? Don't Turkey have good universities that offers landscape programmes? Serkan seems to have studied here only. Or may be Eda's landscape courses might be better outside Turkey. Still i wonder!  So Eda's plan to leave Turkey forced Serkan to confess. Otherwise given a choice, Serkan would have had Eda working with him, going out with her (dating her without mentioning the word), fighting with her and

# Gitmeeda in Sen Cal Kapimi: Creating and Sustaining Suspense within the Romantic Comedy Genre

Image
Those who watch romantic comedies will agree that the storyline of Sen Cal Kapimi is neither unique nor rare. A pretend engagement? A repressed hero? Class differences? A difficult family? An ex-girlfriend or boyfriend? Misunderstandings galore? Love stories have been written in different languages the world over, with all these themes, for centuries.  Those who follow this genre will agree that there is a 98% guarantee that the hero and the heroine will walk into the sunset, holding hands to a happily ever after. We don’t complain even as it features a combination of soulful moments, heart-wrenching dialogues, and passionate yearnings between a couple, celebrated over and over again. The predictability of a well written romantic comedy keeps us in a safe bubble, with the comforting inside knowledge that all will be well at the end of the day.  Thus, u npredictability or suspense is not exactly the X-factor of a rom-com. So, when you see the furore over the possibility of Eda

My Top Five Crazy Girl Moments from Eda in Sen Çal Kapımı

Image
I can’t lie. I am heartbroken for our Flower Girl. Eda is my favorite character in Sen Cal Kapimi and after watching Episode 10, I really miss the old carefree Eda who wasn't burdened with her knowledge of feelings for Serkan. There is a marked difference in Eda from Episode 7-Episode 10. Around Episode 7 is when she receives the warning from her aunt that Serkan is a magician who stole her heart without her knowing it. From then on, she decides to keep her distance and get Selin and Serkan together as fast as possible.   Till that point, Eda is carefree, fun, naughty and doesn’t really care about Serkan or his mom’s good opinion. She is not self-conscious, not worried about her appearance, or about Selin or Serkan's feelings. She doesn’t want to please Serkan, she teases him and indulges in what she thinks as some harmless flirtation to make Selin jealous (though a lot of it happens when no one is around). She is herself. In fact, we see in the earlier episodes, she is act

Sen Cal Kapimi : Episode 10 - My Impressions !

Image
Instead of writing a lengthy essay, I am going to write my impressions I had as I was watching the show! Let me first say that the makers are able to hold our interest with nothing important happening for past two episodes. Though as a plot progress, nothing important happened, it does reiterate the character growth. And the way both Eda and Serkan are growing close but still remain distant. Sometimes feel like banging their heads together. But that is what most of the romantic comedies about! So let's check out episode 10! As Eda walked into Serkan's room, the way Serkan saw her and welcomed her, wow if I were Eda I would have melted. His eyes were full of love, how can Eda not see it! Serkan for all his robotic image was shown with heart in his eyes. He had love in his eyes! I feel we are able to see how Serkan is slowly falling for Eda!  That is why when Selin announced her marriage plans, Serkan's immediate reaction shocked me. The way he lets go Eda's hands and hi

Serkan Bolat in Sen Çal Kapimi - The Fallen Star

Image
I am Serkan Bolat. And no, I am not a robot. Not funny. There is nothing much to say about me, and I am not sure what I am doing here talking to you, a complete stranger. I don't have long rambling conversations with family or friends. I am not affectionate, and sweet. People come to me because they care about what I can do for them.   I am an architect. I have an eye for design and I am good at what I do. I am a Bolat. The Media presumes things about me and my family. We do not enjoy the attention. We do not need the publicity. They say I am a rich entitled recluse. True. They also say I am one of the best architects in Turkey right now. You cannot be the best without working hard, without building contacts. How do they think I became successful? I built Art Life. Father was not supportive. I do not expect anything from him. He would rather I follow his footsteps and join the Holding. Not now. Later. Timing is everything in life. I have my own plans. I carve my own path, my dest

Watching TV shows online!

Image
When a show catches audience fancy, the atmosphere it creates is very unique indeed! In my childhood days, watching a TV show means sitting in front of the TV and watching the show at the specific time with all advertisement breaks. Once Internet opened up global world to us, it also opened me to other language shows like Korean, Thai, Japanese, Thai and now Turkish. I found i was more comfortable watching these shows than English shows as the cultural similarity was aplenty. Removing the slippers as you enter the house and wearing house slippers, respect to elders, joint family system, importance of marriage, protectiveness towards girls, beliefs, values and a lot more.  Discovering online discussion about a TV show was a new experience indeed! I discovered my online community when I accidentally watched a hindi show. This was in 2009/2010. I was surprised to see a thriving online community who discussed the show which was telecast on the previous day, analysing the characters, deco
