My Top Five Crazy Girl Moments from Eda in Sen Çal Kapımı

I can’t lie. I am heartbroken for our Flower Girl. Eda is my favorite character in Sen Cal Kapimi and after watching Episode 10, I really miss the old carefree Eda who wasn't burdened with her knowledge of feelings for Serkan. There is a marked difference in Eda from Episode 7-Episode 10. Around Episode 7 is when she receives the warning from her aunt that Serkan is a magician who stole her heart without her knowing it. From then on, she decides to keep her distance and get Selin and Serkan together as fast as possible.  Till that point, Eda is carefree, fun, naughty and doesn’t really care about Serkan or his mom’s good opinion. She is not self-conscious, not worried about her appearance, or about Selin or Serkan's feelings. She doesn’t want to please Serkan, she teases him and indulges in what she thinks as some harmless flirtation to make Selin jealous (though a lot of it happens when no one is around). She is herself. In fact, we see in the earlier episodes, she is actually not convinced that Selin has serious feelings for Serkan or that Serkan is really in love with Selin. She is more of an observer to the drama that Serkan manufactures around Selin. However, we see her starting to get self-conscious and even shy at times, after her realization of her feelings. She starts over-analyzing Serkan's interactions with Selin, reading more into Serkan's simple statements about her. In Episode 10, she is hurt whenever Serkan talks about his plans for Selin's break up. Her heart is so far gone that it becomes unbearable to listen to him and she no longer has the objectivity to not misunderstand his intentions. She feels all his loving gestures towards her don't matter because he will not choose her. She wants him to choose her. But she doesn't think his logic or personality will allow this.

In Episode 10, we see Serkan struggling with his realizations but Eda cannot see that he is exactly where she is.

Lost in Love.

For all those who are out there who miss the impulsive Eda clueless about Serkan's magic,

Here are my five favorite Crazy Eda moments:

#1 Booing Serkan from the audience in Episode 1

Here she is, turning heads as she steps out dramatically from darkness to light and stares Serkan down with her attitude in the middle of the university function in which Serkan is the chief guest. She is confident, uninhibited, ready for a confrontation, and she doesn’t care about what anyone thinks. She knows she is right. We see the first glimpse of her mettle here: someone who would stand up for her dreams and fight for it and hold you accountable if you try to stand in the way. I hope that her character will not lose this spirit. It is one of the core aspects of her personality. The way she confronts the hero could have gone terribly wrong, but Hande Ercel plays it with such finesse that we never think of Eda's behavior as obnoxious.

# 2 The handcuff moment!

Hmmm… Wow!

I Still haven’t gotten over this one! There I was watching what I presumed to be a predictable romantic feel good story. And then, about 30 minutes into the story, we see one of the defining moments of Sen Cal Kapimi. It hits you out of nowhere. There she is damaging someone’s private property- that too an expensive car of a powerful man, without any thought to the consequences! Serkan loses it and the next thing we know, she is handcuffing him! As Eda speeds away in Serkan's car, handcuffed to him, we see a female character who is assertive bordering on aggressive and still  charming the onlookers into cheering for her.

Act first and then think, that is Eda for you!

# 3 The Kiss

Eda is jilted by her boyfriend Cenk, and seriously! it beats me why Eda dated a guy like Cenk. We don’t know him well, but what we know seem to be more than enough! Circumstances from the previous day make Eda meet Serkan and Cenk at the same hotel. Eda is upset at the break up but turns furious when he casually scorns at the rumour that The Serkan Bolat is interested in her! How can Serkan Bolat, from one of the richest and most prominent families in Turkey, who also happens to be successful and handsome, be interested in Eda the Flower Girl? As Serkan stands at the podium ready to make an announcement in front of the press and his colleagues, in another golden moment of pure craziness, Eda storms past them all to show Cenk he guessed it wrong! She grabs and kisses Serkan in front of everyone with a fully co-operative Serkan kissing her back. And there the game starts.

# 4 Eda lies to Selin that she is moving in with Serkan

This was another laugh out loud moment. Let us be honest! We have all lied at one time or the other to save our faces in front of someone else. Especially, if that someone ardently dislikes you and uses every opportunity to put you down. Eda taunts Selin with all of her trademark brashness that she is moving in with Serkan, didn’t Selin know? Selin’s lecture about Serkan not letting anyone enter his personal space was so thick with condescension that our girl became # Bosslady. It led to a whole lot of other funny moments and misunderstandings. But what do we care. It was Eda 01, Selin 00. As much as Selin's behavior is petty and patronizing, she doesn't come across as a bad person. It is just that, this is not her love story. It is a testament to both Hande and Bige Onal's crafts that their not so subtle power plays are so enjoyable and therefore they rank among one of my favourite things about Sen Cal Kapimi.

# 5  Eda dives to the pool and Serkan follows!

Eda pretends to not know swimming just so she can get Serkan to teach her. However, she underestimates Serkan’s buttoned up personality. As the coach Serkan brings in tries to get Eda to learn swimming, she flirts with him, and we have a jealous Serkan acting antsy and trying to stop the lesson. Our girl refuses to let her pretense fall. She has no guilt in tricking him. By the end of the episode, we have a climax when Eda threatens to throw the phone into the pool first and then jumps into the pool next and Serkan dives right after her as he thinks she will drown. Well, surprise! surprise! She doesn’t. She knew he would jump to save her. She knew in her heart that he wouldn’t be able to resist being her hero.

There are other moments too that deserve an honorable mention. She agrees to decorate Fikret Bay’s house with not much of a clue of what she is getting into. She doesn’t want to refuse a loving husband who is surprising his wife on her birthday after her long battle with cancer. Then there was the time she slaps Serkan as she believes he has made an indecent proposal towards her; or the time she sarcastically pulls up Serkan’s snobbish family friends who try their best to humiliate her during the engagement.

She surprises Serkan throughout the story with her unpredictable sweet nature and her hot fierce anger. She is the one who buys a cupcake to celebrate Serkan’s birthday and gifts him the world; and the one who shatters glass vases one by one to vent her anger as a patient Serkan watches her destructive spree. Eda Yildiz, we wish that you find your lost heart soon and when you look at it, you will see Serkan’s name on it.

  1. Loved reading the crazy moments of Eda! Eda Yildiz is one interesting character indeed! One small misstep, the character would have ended up being obnoxious and stubborn. But Hande Ercel plays it with right level of forthrightness, innocence, pride, ego (yes, she is!), vulnerability, sensuousness (oomph of it!) that Eda became an endearing and believable character. Her loyalty to her family and friends, her beliefs in her values and herself, and her optimistic outlook, all make her a character admired even by her critics. Serkan's mom, Selin and pryl's change of attitude towards Eda is proof enough.

Her jump into the pool was such a surprise element, and that handcuff moment! One of a kind woman indeed! no wonder Serkan never had a chance! Poor guy! Right from day one he has been swept off his feet! This is role reversal indeed! (tipping my imaginary hat to the writer)

Her abrupt 'we are also getting married' joined the above moments!

She is indeed an interesting character. But as you pointed out being in love she has lost her ingenuity and smartness. other wise by now she would have realized Serkan is attracted to her not Selin. Further it has made her insecure. Earlier i remember her refusing Aydan's offer for new dresses but we see her now accepting and trying them out. i dont want her to become shy and looking-for her guy's approval kind of character.

  2. Yes! "We are getting married" moment was quite funny too! I want more of these moments when she totally throws off everyone around her with her drastic moves.
