'The course of true love never did run smooth' - Review dedicated to Serkan Bolat!

Finally geared myself and finished episode 14! Only one person took all my focus - Serkan Bolat!!!  As I told earlier, the whole story is narrated from his pov. Though the story did start from Eda's narration and Serkan enters the scene a little later. Right from the time Serkan comes in, we start looking at the progression of the story through his eyes. The way he is stumped by the wild spirit of Eda, and the way he falls for her and his efforts to keep away and his failure and his outright surrender - everything we do it with him. In spite of Eda calling him Robot Bolat, Serkan actually wears his heart in his sleeve indeed. If he is angry, the whole world knows about it. If he hates some one, he tells them directly. So when he fell in love, he was shocked because he was not used it. Selin was more of a convenience and a habit. He did not fall in love with her. With Eda he gloriously fell  deep in love. And Serkan being serkan couldn't hide it for long. Given a choice, if Eda was working in his company, he would have probably be like Engin, loving her but not confiding to her. But her decision to go to Italy tipped the scales and he was forced to confess.

After confession it was a treat to see blushing and romantic Serkan! They were not even allowed to enjoy their romance for a couple of episodes. Problem strikes again! Serkan's dad's past mistake comes to haunt Serkan. Though I am not happy that he did not confide in her I can understand him. If he had told the truth, Eda would have been upset. And going by her feelings, Serkan knows she cannot forgive the people involved. She also will not consider Serkan as a culprit but she will be torn between her innate fairness and her strong sense of justice that will want to punish them. I don't think Serkan wants her to suffer such painful feelings. The scene where he rebukes her for her innate goodness supports this view point. Eda will be torn between her love for serkan and her anger against his parents. so he took age-old excuse of sacrificing his love.

When i started the show I didn't know who Kerem was. I just saw a good looking guy. The plot line was interesting and i have seen Hande Ercel earlier show. But as i started the show, it is Kerem Bursin who has really impressed me with his act as Serkan. After confessing his love, next few scenes we could see his blushing but loving eyes. His eyes are so very expressive that it reaches out to the viewer.

When he is angry it really shoots at the enemy. And when he is suffering, the pain that he reveals in his eyes make us suffer along with him. in episode 13, last scene the way he acted after hearing the past story, he made us all suffer with his pain. The romantic scenes after he knew the truth showed him having sad eyes which makes Eda question him. The sadness in his eyes was really haunting. And in the final scene when he breaks up, the dead look in his eyes should have been an indicator to Eda. How can she accept what he was telling? She should be seeing his eyes and reading his suffering. She tells him to look into her eyes and tell that he is breaking up. But why is she not reading his eyes? The dead eyes are filled with pain once she moves off from the scene. Kerem is really a great actor! Hats off to him!

As i told earlier, the whole story i am seeing from Kerem's pov. Is it same for others? Though Eda's feelings are also open, I am not feeling the connect which I seemed to have developed with Serkan. Why is that?

Eda is shown as a strong woman brought up by another strong woman who strongly feels man shouldn't be the focus in a woman's life. So Eda probably will move on. But Serkan?

Imagine in a rom-com, where the guy ditches the girl, we all are feelign strongly for the guy! and worry how is he going to manage. No one is worried about Eda though she is the innocent who is punished for no fault of hers. But all of audience sympathy is for Serkan. Why is that? Is it the character? Is it the way story is told? Is it kerem's acting? I am still not able to decide!

Comments

  1. Keram Bursin with his acting...he is really stealing hearts with his ideals, his personality and charisma. I hope he will meet with even more success. He deserves it.
As for Episode 14, a much better outing than the 13th one. Watching with interest to see what is ahead for SCK with you :)
