My Observations of Sen Cal Kapimi - Episode 11
When the whole world is looking forward to the romantic (hopefully) episode 12, I am looking back at episode 11. After watching it raw, i wanted to delay watching the episode with subs along with episode 12, but couldn't wait. and i watched it two days back. finally we are moving forward in the plot. I didn't expect Serkan to confess this soon, so it was a surprise for me! The last scene made such an impact, I need to talk about it first before going to the rest of the episode. As some fans were questioning, even i wonder why is it needed for Eda to go to Italy to study? Don't Turkey have good universities that offers landscape programmes? Serkan seems to have studied here only. Or may be Eda's landscape courses might be better outside Turkey. Still i wonder!
So Eda's plan to leave Turkey forced Serkan to confess. Otherwise given a choice, Serkan would have had Eda working with him, going out with her (dating her without mentioning the word), fighting with her and having her in front of his eyes without him confessing his feelings. He is not used to depending on other people. His childhood made him like that. So i could relate to him being closed and not talking about his feelings. Eda doesn't know about his childhood issues, so her expecting him to be as open as she is natural. In spite of her misfortunes, Eda has always been open about her life. She might hide certain things for some time, but if needed she has no hesitation confessing about it and even apologizing if needed. she does it with her friends and aunt. But Serkan is unable to open up and apologizing is unheard of. But he does both with Eda. He has come to trust Eda so much that he is willing to open up about his inner feelings and also ready to apologize. There is a phrase he uses 'whom he trusts', i think when he was talking to his father. Serkan doesn't trust people easily. That is why he even blamed Eda earlier. But now he trusts Eda so much. I wonder if Eda's knowledge about Ferit and his betrayal with Khaan will become an issue? Or with Khaan out of the picture, may be it won't. But i think trust issues are going to become a problem.
We now have base for future complications. Serkan's father is responsible for Eda's parents' death! And Ferit knows it! I thought this plot device was deliberately built. We knew there was something tragic about Eda's parents. I somehow feel connecting Eda's parents' death with Serkan's dad to create trouble was more of later development. It was not organically built into the story. If only Ayse had hinted it earlier, it would have been more believable. Or make that as another reason for Serkan's anger against his dad. I mean not just childhood abandonment, he also comes to know abt his dad's not-so-ethical business behaviour. That is why he doesnt want to involve fully with his dad, in spite of his apology. I mean, the issue should have been more intricately built into the plot. With a writer like Ayse, I don't want to see artificial connections. Anyways lets see how it is going to be addressed.
I feel the whole story is from Serkan's perspective. Though we do see Eda falling for Serkan, I find the story focused more on Serkan's confusion, his inner dilemmas, resistance, and final breaking of all his barriers - every thing from his point of view. So I could relate more to his character. In fact in one scene, when Eda was leaving him, i saw his tear filled eyes! Serkan had tears in his eyes! How could Eda leave him and go? She seemed heartless in that scene. Though she was trying to save herself, i was rooting more for Serkan.
Eda wants Serkan to confess or tell that he wants her to stay back. If he had said that, she would have asked for what. I think she wants him to confess but she is not ready to confess. Both have egos, but finally it was Serkan who let go of his ego for the fear of losing her. Whereas, Eda thinking he is with Selin, is willing to go to Italy and try to forget him. She knows that he likes her. She could have tried to find whom he loves. May be when you are in love, you are more insecure. So she couldn't believe that great Serkan could love her. Further the years of togetherness has created an irrevocable bond between Serkan and Selin. That is what defeated our Eda!
On a side note i wanted to mention the aunt character, I actually was admiring her character which was more classy in a turkish show. Many shows such family characters end up being too loud and gross. This lady was very classy even while screaming. But before the episode finished, i saw her over reacting for the contract issue. I understand it is not a done thing, but found it little over the top! And involving her grandmother against Eda's wishes was not done. I understand she is angry with Serkan, but she saw his built that terrarium on his own. He cant be that bad. she is a good judge of character, remember the way she was able to see through Khaan. So can't she see Serkan's real character?
Another thing that was bugging was why didnt Serkan tell Selin bluntly that he doesnt want her? I feel sad for Selin. Both Eda and Ayden are giving her false hopes (though Eda was believing it herself), Serkan also was not being blunt. He probably was dangling her until she will ditch Ferit. That is so mean of him! If they both are really in love, that is not fair to both of them. I think Ferit really loves Selin. I felt sorry for Selin in this episode. Though she started as a snooty character, she is not an evil person. She is only a victim of circumstances. After years of being together, expecting marriage is normal. And when denied, searching for another person is also not wrong.
I hope they give us a few episodes of romance before bringing new bombs. i wish they show somethign where both leads together solve than fight with each other. with new arrival of another guy, lets see what is going to happen. What i dont want to see is suspicion and mistrust between the leads! Hate to see that!
I think Ferrit still doesn't know its Eda's family that got killed. He only knows the father was not on the clear. Also, now that so many new pathways have opened up in the story, there are too many elements that are unpredictable or uncertain...But so far it has been very well acted and presented. Loved the episode 12 even though the trailers seem to be intent on creating chaos and confusion among the audience of SCK
